So you’ve decided that your construction company needs an online presence.
That’s fantastic!
An online presence can connect you with potential clients and increase your overall stature and legitimacy as a business.
Clients tend to trust a business that they can research online, rather than a business with no online presence at all.
I’ve helped many construction companies join the digital age, and this article will get you on the right path to increase your chances at success.
Even if you have already begun your online migration, I suggest that you skim through my suggestions to make sure you have all the pieces and tools you need for your project.
If you use just one social network for your business, make it Facebook.
With well over 1.5 billion worldwide users in 2020,and 50million Nigerians Facebook has the most users out of all social media platforms.
The demographics of people who use Facebook show that the majority of them are most likely the household decision makers who would be looking for construction services
Facebook advertising is also fairly easy to set up, and allows you to easily target people by interest and region.
Social media is a space for you to be creative.
Share company updates, seasonal service reminders, special offers, and before and after shots of your construction projects.
Once you’re ready to establish your business on other channels, Twitter and Instagram are natural next steps.
But before you bite off more than you can chew, keep in mind that consistency is key when it comes to acquiring and maintaining followers on all social media channels.
You want to set up a realistic posting schedule that your followers can anticipate (once a day, twice a week, etc.), and be sure to check your channels often for client questions, feedback and interactions.
If you’re looking to bring your company online, one of the quickest ways to do it is to submit to local directories, also known as citations.
Citations are online directories of businesses that help people find you, even if you don’t have a website.
Whenever you search on Google Maps for a business, these results are actually citations in the Google My Business directory.
A few popular citations are:
Google My Business
Facebook Pages
Vconnect
Nigeria business connect
Connect Nigeria
Nigeria business list
Finelib etc
Construction companies benefit the most from creating citations.
For example, if you are an architect and someone is searching for an architect in their area, then you may show up in their results.
Even if you’re not an architect, you can still submit your office location to most directories.
They’re still business directories, and they can lead people to your business.
Your website is the online home base for your construction company, the place people expect to find if they hear about your company through word of mouth.
It should answer the common questions people will have about your company and make it easy for them to sign up or get in touch and become your client. Keep it simple and it will be effective.
You most likely have all of the information you need to set up a website (written down, on a flyer, in your head), so put aside some time to gather all of that valuable content into one document and you’ll be ready to go.
You can start out by building a simple website with a free platform like Wix, which makes it easy for just about anyone to put together a small website.
But, if you’re ready to do something a little fancier, more professional and custom then you should consider hiring a web designer.
If you’re going to invest in a website, be sure you’re getting one that WORKS.
Unlike your print marketing materials — you know, those brochures and business cards lying around on your table and car sit— a website can actually work hard for your business.
In addition to helping you get found online, a website :
Each of the tips above are optional when building your online presence. But if you want to set yourself up for success, I highly recommend that you do each of them. At the very least, claim your business on Google My Business if you haven’t already.
